Better Together For Dogs — Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026

By visiting this site, using its tools, or creating an account, you accept the terms below. In these terms, "we", "us", "our", and "BTD" mean Better Together For Dogs, and "you" means anyone visiting or using the platform. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

01 · Intellectual Property

All content on Better Together For Dogs (BTD) — including text, logos, wordmarks, graphics, page layouts, downloadable templates, generated PDFs, and source design files — is owned by BTD or its contributors and is protected by international copyright laws. The sub-sections below address how this applies to different groups who use the platform.

1.1For every visitor

Text, logos, graphics, page layouts, downloadable templates, generated PDFs, and source design files published by BTD may be viewed, downloaded, and adapted for the purpose of supporting dogs in need — including helping a shelter, rescue, or foster program place its animals.

Most shelters and rescues recover care costs through an adoption fee. Charging such a fee to a final adopter does not, by itself, turn use of BTD-published materials into the kind of reuse that needs our written permission.

Any reuse of BTD-owned brand marks, logos, or document layouts for a purpose that is unrelated to placing, supporting, or promoting rescue dogs requires prior written permission from info@bettertogetherfordogs.org.

1.2For shelters & rescue organizations

Shelter and rescue organizations retain ownership of their own listings, contact information, photos, and dog data that they share with us. By sharing a feed URL or uploading an export, the organization grants BTD a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display and re-share those listings across our community channels for non-commercial rescue purposes.

An attribution label linking back to the originating shelter is shown next to any listing amplified from your feed, and you can revoke BTD access at any time by emailing info@bettertogetherfordogs.org.

1.3For foster caregivers

Foster caregivers retain ownership of the personal stories, photos, and observations they contribute about their foster dogs.

By uploading foster content to BTD, you grant BTD and the partnering shelter or rescue a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display that material in connection with the dog's adoption profile and community posts — for the purpose of finding the dog a permanent home.

1.4For community contributors (comments, designs, photos, tips)

Community-submitted content (comments, uploaded designs, photos, tips, and shared URLs) remains the property of the submitting user. By uploading content to the platform, you grant BTD a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, reproduce, and use that content in connection with platform operations, and to allow other shelters, rescues, and foster caregivers to view and adapt it for non-commercial rescue purposes.

You represent and warrant that any content you upload is yours to share or you have permission from the rights holder, and that it does not infringe any third party's rights.

02 · Eligibility, Accounts & Conduct

BTD is a volunteer-run community for people who want to help dogs. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, submit a foster application, or manage an account on behalf of a shelter or rescue.

When you register, give us accurate information about yourself and keep it current. If it turns out to be inaccurate, or you let it go stale, we may suspend or close the account.

You are responsible for everything that happens under your username and password, so keep your password secure and don't share it. Tell us right away at info@bettertogetherfordogs.org if you think someone else has accessed your account.

We may refuse a username that impersonates someone else, is protected by trademark or other proprietary rights, or is vulgar, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.

  • Use your real identifying information when registering.
  • Do not impersonate another person, organization, or shelter staff member.
  • Do not post commercial advertising unrelated to rescue or fostering.
  • Do not share your login, or create accounts to get around a suspension.

03 · Prohibited Activities

BTD exists to help rescue dogs find homes, and it is run by volunteers. You may not use this platform in any way that works against that purpose. The activities below are prohibited, whether or not they are also unlawful — a determination we make at our sole discretion. This list is not exhaustive, and we may suspend or close any account that engages in them.

  • Violate anyone's privacy or other legal rights — including uploading another person's private information, photos, address, or contact details without their consent.
  • Defame or disparage BTD, its volunteers, partner shelters and rescues, or other users, or act in any way that damages the good name of BTD or of the rescue community it serves.
  • Upload files containing viruses, malware, or anything else that could damage BTD's systems, a partner organization's systems, or another person's device or data.
  • Post or transmit unauthorized material of any kind — including content that is harassing, defamatory, racist, obscene, threatening, pornographic, profane, or otherwise unlawful, or material that is likely to disrupt BTD's or a third party's systems or network security.
  • Use BTD's AI features to obtain veterinary diagnoses, treatment instructions, or emergency veterinary advice instead of consulting a licensed veterinarian. BTD's AI writing and design tools are marketing aids only and are not a substitute for professional veterinary care.
  • Misuse, disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract data from BTD's AI systems, templates, or underlying technology.
  • Submit content or prompts designed to manipulate, abuse, or probe the limits of BTD's AI systems in ways that could harm the platform, other users, partner organizations, or third parties.
  • Use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access or interact with BTD or its AI features beyond normal human use.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data, or to bypass any security or access measure — including accessing shelter or foster data you have not been given permission to see.
  • Use dog listings, photos, or contact details taken from BTD to bulk-market, resell, or redistribute data to people or services that are not placing rescue dogs.

04 · Submissions, Content License & Takedown

The license you grant us when you upload content is described in Section 01.

4.1Feedback and suggestions

Ideas, suggestions, feature requests, and other non-personal material you send us by email or upload are treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. We are free to use, adapt, and build on them without obligation or compensation to you, and we are not required to use any of them. Personal information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

4.2Takedown requests

If you find content on this platform that you did not authorize — including your photos, dog listings, or organization data — you can request its removal by emailing info@bettertogetherfordogs.org with a link to the content.

We acknowledge takedown requests within 72 hours and remove the content unless we have a documented rights-review reason to keep it.

BTD reserves the right to remove or replace any content — including photos, text, and videos — from BTD online dog ad pages and/or BTD databases whenever we deem it necessary, for example when content is inaccurate, outdated, of insufficient quality, infringing, unlawful, or otherwise not in the interest of the dog or the community. We may do this at our own discretion and without prior notice.

4.3Copyright complaints (DMCA)

BTD responds to notices of claimed copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512(c). Send notices to info@bettertogetherfordogs.org with the subject line "Copyright Notice".

To be valid, your notice must include: a physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act for the copyright owner; identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed; identification of the material you want removed and enough information for us to find it on the platform; your address, telephone number, and email; a statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act for the owner.

Be aware that under the DMCA, anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages, court costs, and attorneys' fees.

05 · Community Guidelines

BTD's comment areas, tips boards, and social channels are family- and dog-friendly spaces. We ask that you play nice and be polite. Posting to them does not mean BTD agrees with you — community posts do not necessarily reflect the views of BTD or our volunteers.

We may remove posts we consider offensive, inappropriate, or out of step with the spirit of the space — including advertising, spam, off-topic posts, vulgar language, content promoting irresponsible pet ownership, posts that violate someone's rights, or posts that break another platform's terms — and we may block accounts that keep doing it.

If you have a material connection to BTD — as a volunteer, partner organization, sponsored creator, or ambassador — please say so when you post.

Only upload photos or videos of a dog that is yours or that you have the owner's permission to use. If other people appear in a photo or video, you need their permission too, or a parent's or legal guardian's permission if they are a minor.

06 · Accuracy & Platform Disclaimer

We put real effort into keeping the information on BTD accurate and up to date, and we are still a volunteer-run platform. We cannot promise that everything on the site is accurate, complete, or current, and any reliance on it is at your own risk. It is worth checking the details with the shelter or rescue before you act on them.

BTD is a marketing and community platform. We do not own, control, operate, or manage any shelter or rescue organization, and we are not responsible for the care, condition, health, temperament, or behavior of any dog listed on the site.

Listings, photos, medical notes, behavior notes, and adoption decisions are created and controlled by the organization or person who uploaded them. We do not independently verify that information and make no guarantees about the health, condition, or suitability of any dog.

Any adoption, foster placement, or other arrangement is solely between you and that shelter, rescue, or caregiver. BTD is not a party to any adoption agreement or transaction, and takes no responsibility for the decisions, actions, or outcomes of an adoption or foster arrangement facilitated through the platform.

You are responsible for deciding whether a dog suits your household, your other animals, and your circumstances before you foster or adopt. Spending time with animals carries inherent risk — to the maximum extent permitted by law, BTD is not liable for injury, illness, property damage, behavioral issues, or other loss arising from a dog adopted, fostered, or otherwise obtained through the platform.

07 · AI Tools & Veterinary Disclaimer

BTD's AI tools write adoption text, design ads, and help with marketing. They provide general informational and educational content only. They are not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing produced through them should be relied on as veterinary guidance.

Do not use BTD to diagnose or treat a dog's health condition. Always consult a licensed veterinarian or another qualified professional about a dog's health. Using BTD does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, or any other professional relationship, between you and BTD.

If you believe a dog is having a medical emergency, do not rely on this site — contact a licensed veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital immediately.

AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, misleading, or outdated, and it is generated automatically without human review. You are responsible for checking and verifying anything an AI tool produces before you publish it, send it to a shelter, or act on it.

Anything you type into an AI feature — prompts, dog details, questions — may be processed and stored as described in our

/privacy

.

By using the AI features, you accept that their output is informational only, that you assume the risk of any decision you make based on it, and that BTD is not responsible for loss or damage arising from your reliance on it, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

08 · Third-Party Services & Links

BTD uses the public Petfinder API to enrich dog listings when a shelter or rescue shares a Petfinder feed URL with us. Petfinder API terms require attribution of the source listing; we display the originating shelter name next to any amplified listing that came from Petfinder and re-review the Petfinder API terms quarterly.

We rely on a hosting provider (Base44), file storage, and Google Fonts. These providers process data only as necessary to render the platform.

Links on BTD may take you outside our platform and into another website, app, or service. We provide those links in good faith and take no responsibility for their content, accuracy, or function, and we cannot be held responsible if they change later. A link is not an endorsement. Please read the terms and privacy notices of any site or app you visit.

09 · Mobile Services & Messaging Consent

BTD is built to work on a phone as well as a desktop, and many people use it while standing in a kennel aisle or photographing a dog. This section covers what that means for your mobile use, and for any text messages or calls you agree to receive from us.

9.1What the mobile services are

Where BTD makes them available to you, the "Mobile Services" include: (a) uploading content — photos, videos, and dog details — to BTD from your mobile phone or tablet; (b) receiving and replying to messages, or posting and accessing content, using text messaging; (c) browsing BTD from your mobile device; and (d) accessing BTD features through a mobile application you have downloaded and installed on your mobile device.

9.2Carrier charges

Your mobile carrier's standard data, internet, messaging, and other service fees and charges apply to your use of and access to the Mobile Services, and you are solely responsible for all such fees and charges. The Mobile Services may not be compatible with every mobile device, carrier, or service, and BTD makes no representation or warranty about that compatibility. You are solely responsible for making sure your device is compatible with the type of content provided through the Mobile Services. Content delivered as part of the Mobile Services may reach your device through premium mobile services, and you are solely and exclusively responsible for any charges for those services, including roaming charges.

9.3Commercial messages

You may be given the option to register to receive commercial messages from BTD on your mobile device — for example announcements about new marketing tools, tutorials, or community programs. You understand that your wireless service provider may charge you in connection with receiving such messages. You may opt out of future messages at any time by following the instructions given (i) in the wireless message itself or (ii) on the page or in the app where you registered to receive them.

9.4TCPA consent

By providing your mobile phone number to BTD, you consent to receive communications from BTD, including service-related messages, account notifications, and — where permitted by law — marketing messages by SMS text message, telephone call, or autodialed, prerecorded, or other automated technology. Consent to receive marketing communications is not a condition of using BTD or any of its tools. Message and data rates may apply.

You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying "STOP" to a text message, or by contacting us at info@bettertogetherfordogs.org. For assistance, you may reply "HELP" to a text message where that option is available.

9.5Messages from third parties

Shelters, rescues, foster programs, and other third parties who use BTD to communicate with users are solely responsible for obtaining any legally required consent before sending SMS messages, phone calls, or other communications through the platform. BTD does not control, initiate, or direct those communications and is not responsible for messages sent by third parties using the Services.

10 · Warranties & Limitation of Liability

BTD is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including that the platform will be complete, accurate, reliable, or timely, that access will be uninterrupted or error-free, that the site will be free of viruses, or that any advice or opinion you get from BTD is accurate or should be relied on.

We may restrict, suspend, or end your access to the platform, or to any feature of it, at any time. We have no obligation to keep any particular feature or tool online, and content may change without notice. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

BTD is a non-commercial, community-led platform. To the maximum extent permitted by law, BTD and its contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, costs, losses, or liabilities arising from your access to or use of the platform, your inability to use it, changes to its content, another site or app you reach through a link, or actions we take or don't take in response to an email you send us.

We may review or moderate comments, posts, and community areas from time to time, but we are not obliged to, and we take no responsibility for what appears there — including any error, defamation, omission, falsehood, profanity, off-topic or inaccurate material.

If you download any material from BTD, you do so at your own risk, and we are not liable for anything that may enter your device or systems as a result.

Match results from the foster pre-application are informational only and do not guarantee placement with any shelter or rescue.

11 · Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

Before filing a claim against us, please email info@bettertogetherfordogs.org with a description of the issue and the outcome you are looking for. We will make a good-faith effort to resolve it informally, and we ask that you give us 60 days to do so before taking the matter further. This costs nothing and is how almost everything gets settled here.

If it cannot be resolved that way, any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts serving Marion County, Florida, and both sides agree to the jurisdiction of those courts. Either side may still bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies.

12 · Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, and we may correct or clarify this page at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance. Please come back and review this page occasionally. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
